Do You Have Value? Let Find Out

Writer: Adete DahiyaAdete Dahiya

This week I want to talk about what decides your value 👑 Now a lot of people have difficulty accepting the fact that they inherently have value.

📹 I have addressed this multiple times in my content. It all started with this reel, where I basically said that your worth isn’t dependent on how much money you make, what your achievements are, what your skin color/texture is like etc.

⚠️ And I was bombarded with a slew of comments — where people called this BS and said that you only have value, if you’ve done something that is considered valuable.

💭 Now here’s the problem with that thought process

Value is of two types - intrinsic and extrinsic: ✅ Your intrinsic value is the value you associate with yourself — what you think of yourself and how you view yourself with the world. ✅ Your extrinsic value is the value the world around you associates with you.

The catch here is that your extrinsic value hugely depends on your intrinsic value.

Confused?🤔

Let me explain..

❇️ A person who has qualities such as high confidence, self esteem, self belief, emotional regulation, kindness, empathy, etc — is also projecting the same into the world around them. It is these traits that people pick up on when they interact with him and therefore they also assign similar value to him.

❗❗❗On the other hand if someone is under confident, a people pleaser doesn’t know how to handle their emotions, is selfish etc — will project the same. As a result, people will pick up on these and assign similar value to him.

⚠️ This is not to deny that there are certain people’s contribution to society increases their value significantly. But remember these are only the people we get to know about. Would you value Taylor Swift on the same level as a researcher working on a cure for cancer? Not until you get to know about him/her! And if they are a part of a team, chances are you are never going to associate the same value with them.

❇️ On a planet of 8 billion people, not everyone can contribute in the same way, so using that as a marker to judge your own value in the world is where the problem lies. That is the reason for so much dissatisfaction, self doubt, and hurt.

📹 I made a YouTube video recently on how to become a high value person — and yes this relates to your intrinsic value. So if you haven’t checked it out yet, make sure you do! And remember that:

Being high-value has nothing to do with how you look, and what you do or what you have, and everything to do with how you choose to regard yourself.

And that’s all for today.

But before we go, here’s the question of the week for you: What do you associate your value with?
