Unlock Insane Focus For Yourself

Tired of feeling like you can't focus anymore?

Well, you're not alone. 🙅‍♀️

It seems our generation is in a constant battle with focus—be it tackling household chores or bigger projects. Blame it on our multitasking ways, the endless ping of notifications, or our thirst for new stimuli, but the fact is, our scattered attention is more than just annoying—it's harmful.

When you are unable to focus, your heart rate and blood pressure increase, and your brain produces more cortisol: the stress hormone. This can lead to a number of physical problems, such as headaches, fatigue, and even heart disease. 🫀

And your mental health doesn't get off easy, either. A scattered brain can lead to anxiety, and depression, not to mention a slump in productivity and creativity.

With so much going on, you might be thinking is there no way to bring back the focus which you had when you were younger?

Well, here is the good news. There's actually a way to unlock insane focus and actually get things done? You see, our focus might feel like an ingrained element, however, the truth is, it is a habit that you can develop with time as well.

Here are 5 points that I learned during my experimentation with my own focus, along with tips to help you improve yours:

➡️ Identify Your Focus Time: ⏱️

Time yourself doing different activities to see how long you can stay focused. This will help you understand your baseline and areas for improvement.

➡️ Focus is Not One-Size-Fits-All:

There are different types of focus, like alternating focus (switching between tasks) or flow state focus (deep immersion). Different techniques work better for different types of focus. Try and experiment with which one works best in your case.

➡️ Tame Your Distractions:

Your distractions can be of two types. Find out which one is most alarming and tackle that.

  • External: The most effective way for this kind of distraction is by cleaning your workspace, silencing notifications, and removing devices that tempt you. I spend 10 minutes before I begin work, taming my external distractions. 🧹

  • Internal: Internal on the other hand requires frequent intervention. You can do that by capturing fleeting thoughts in a notebook and using meditation to quiet a busy mind. 🧘‍♀️

➡️ Optimize Your Environment:

Your environment plays a crucial role in making sure that you stay focused on your task. A distracted environment is a disaster for your mind. I tackle this issue using the SSR formula:

  • Space: Create a dedicated workspace that triggers your focus mode.

  • Schedule: Identify your peak focus times and schedule high-focus tasks during those periods.

  • Rest: Prioritize sleep to recharge your mental battery and boost focus.

➡️ Train Your Focus Muscle: 💪

Practice mindfulness to improve attention span and impulse control. Start meditating for at least 5 minutes a day and gradually increase it. Also, add in Visual Attention Training such as exercises like focusing on a dot, spotting the difference, or sudoku.

➡️ Bonus Tip:

Take action! Don't just sit on the pointers.

Confused about where to start? Let me help you out.

  • Declutter your workspace.

  • Silence distractions.
