When Was The Last Time You Were Happy?

Life happens, right? Sometimes it may also feel like everything's going wrong, and honestly, it's hard to see that ray of sunshine through the clouds.

But guess what? You're not alone! EVERYONE feels stuck at one time or the other, including me.

But the thing about life is that every chapter in our story, the good and especially the bad, shapes us into the people want to be.

So, whenever I am in a tough spot in life, I try to remember these 4 things (helps to write them down and put them on the wall in front of me):

➡️ It’s just a chapter, not the whole book: There’s a quote by Birbal (of Akbar and Birbal) that says “ye waqt beet jayega”, aka “this too shall pass”. And that is so helpful to remember in tough times. Because often when we’re in the middle of the storm it can feel like we’ll never see the end of it. Zooming out and understanding that in our book of life, this is just a chapter and we’ll soon be on a new one is super helpful.

➡️ Hard situations make us strong: Now, for this pointer, I want you to do an exercise. Close your eyes and imagine the coolest action hero whom you admired as a child. What did they do? Did they train hard or did they eat chips while watching Netflix?

Growing up, I was made to believe that you should always seek the easier way out. You should want to live an easy life but an easy life later is a result of doing the hard things now. As Naval Ravikant says, take the path that is more painful in the short term. This ensures more comfort in the long term. If I take the pain of working hard now, I’m already building a comfortable life. If I work on my relationship now, I am building unbreakable bonds.

➡️ I’m 100% responsible for how I spend my time: What would you have done if you had a magic controller for your day? REPLY to this email and let me know.

That's exactly what it will feel like the moment you start taking responsibility for your time. This doesn’t mean that outside events, society, or the government don’t impact your life…it means that you live an action-oriented life — you take responsibility for your time and how you spend it instead of coming up with 100 excuses why you can’t do something.

You can simply do this by shifting your narrative. For example, instead of saying "I can't," think of "What can I do right now?"

➡️ Never Stop Believing: I have a more spiritual viewpoint on this — we create our reality with the way we think - everything that happens in our life is a direct result of how we think and if we don’t believe good things are possible, there’s a high chance they won’t be. Having belief in the best-case scenario keeps us motivated to keep working towards it. It’s like planting a seed - with sunshine and water (hard work and a positive attitude!), it'll grow into something amazing!

In the end, remember,

“You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think! Now go out there and write your own epic story! ✨”

Don’t forget to share your thoughts by commenting back. I am always reading them.
